Thrice As Nice- A Rosh Hoshanah Tale From Not Another New England Sports Blog!

Because I'm not the most ambitious person in the world to start off with- plus I'll be even further out in the boonies than usual over the next couple of days- I started out thinking I'd do something similar to my blog entry last year for the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hoshanah. Basically some generic wishes peppered with some olive drab clad Rule 5-bait of the Israeli persuasion.

But while doing a search for some IDF eye candy (and lets face it, they are to women in uniform what Brazilians are to female soccer fans), I came across the tale of the very lovely and unique Orbaum Triplets, pictured above.
"The concept of 'one for all and all for one' can get pretty absurd," the late Jerusalem Post staffer and columnist Sam Orbaum wrote about his identical triplet daughters 14 years ago.

Orbaum, who passed away in 2002 at the age of 46, went on in the column, entitled "The threeness of it all," to describe life as a father of identical triplets.

Not only did he sometimes mix them up, Orbaum wrote in his well-known wry, comic style, but he was also constantly impressed by their tight bond - when for example they stood up for one another in fights in the school sandbox.

The three blond 19-year-old sisters are still sticking up for one another, although this time not on the playground but in the IAF, in which they all enlisted a few months ago, making history.

While all three are in khaki-colored air force uniforms, they don't serve together. Odelia, the oldest (born a minute before her two sisters), serves as a control officer in the IAF's underground command-and-control center in the Kirya in Tel Aviv; Nomi is an air traffic control officer at the IAF's Palmahim Base; and Donna is currently in training for a different IAF position near Herzliya.

"Even though we are, in a sense, still together since we are all in the IAF, it was still difficult to split up to different positions and offices," said Odelia.

The sisters say that they think of themselves as one person, which might not make sense - until one sees how they complete one another's sentences or give the same answers during the interview.

Since elementary school the three have been together, going on to the same high school in Jerusalem's Ramot neighborhood and then to the same premilitary academy in the Jordan Valley.

It was there that the triplets decided to enlist in the IDF and not do national service like most of their female classmates.

"As religious girls we were confused about what to do," said Nomi. "But [we] decided to enlist into the IDF since national service, like working in an old age home, is something we can always do after our military service, but military service is right now. [It's] the only time we can do it and is what characterizes the state."

Once they made their decision, all they had left was to find fulfilling jobs in the IDF. Donna said she thought about trying out for the pilot's course; Nomi thought at one point about joining the Ground Forces Command and becoming an infantry instructor.

In the end, they all made their way to the air force, albeit on different bases.

"We didn't all decide to joint the IAF," explained Odelia. "That is just how it worked out."

Nomi, the self-declared "controlling" sister, said that becoming an air traffic controller fit in very well with her personality.

"I usually make the decisions so becoming an air traffic controller was natural," she said.

While the three are not currently together, they all plan on becoming officers and hope to be in the same course at the Bahad 1 Officer Training School near Mitzpe Ramon in a few months.

If that doesn't work out, there's always the post-IDF trip overseas, which they have no doubt they will make together.

The girls also don't doubt that their father would have supported their decision to join the army. When Sam came to Israel he tried to enlist, they said, but he was exempted on medical grounds.

"He supported us in everything we did until he passed away when we were 12," Donna said. "This is the seventh year since he passed away and I think about him all the time and see his smile and know that he would have been proud of us."

The story is from late 2009, so Odelia, Kirya and Nomi are probably 21 and could very well be junior officers by now if they followed through on attending the Officer Training School together.

US Born Al Qaeda Cleric Killed in Arabian Peninsula Drone Airstrike

The good news is that you still get your virgins, Anwar. The bad news is that all 72 of them look like Michael Moore.
Anwar al-Awlaki, Al Qaeda's internet savvy, New Mexico-born propagaindist was killed in Yemen on Friday when what's believed to be a CIA drone fired a missile on a convoy.

Fluent in English, al-Awlaki is said to have inspired numerous attacks against American and Western targets, including the failed Christmas 2009 underwear bomber over Detroit, an October 2010 plot to bring down aircraft using explosive parcels. The Islamic cleric is said to have corresponded via e-mail with Nidal Hasan prior to his November 2009 Fort Hood murder spree and Faisal Shahzad's botched May 2010 attempt to set off a car bomb in New York City's Times Square.

Also in may 2010, a 21 year old unemployed woman named Roshonara Choudharay who said she was inspired by al-Awlaki's online sermons and articles stabbed Labour MP Stephen Timms at the Beckton Globe library.

Beginning in 2000, al-Awlaki preached in a San Diego area mosque where he met two parishoners who were later identified as Khalid al-Midar and Nawaf al-Hamzi- two of the 9/11 hijackers. The following year, al-Awlaki moved to northern Virginia before heading back to Yemen by way of London in 2002. From Yemen's tribal controlled hinterlands, al-Awlaki delivered sermons and oversaw recruitment for Al Qaeda on the Arabian Peninusla, escaping a similar attempt on his life in May of this year.

Captain's Thoughts on Francona

Terry Francona, who was the first Red Sox manager to win multiple World Series titles with the team since Bill Carrigan (1915 and 1916), will no longer be managing the Sox.

I'm not sure if this isn't a semi-mutual decision. Francona didn't seem pleased with the team he was given, nor with Theo Epstein, and I wouldn't be shocked if he told the Sox owners that he didn't want to be back, and at the same time management said to him that they didn't want him back.

We'll undoubtedly get some leaks in the Sox controlled media about a lack of discipline in the Sox clubhouse. Francona has a reputation for leniency, for being a "player's manager." To me, that's what allowed the Sox to be relaxed in the 2004 and 2007 ALCS. But those teams also had more veteran leadership to keep things in line.

They also had better pitching on those teams, which may have helped them win. I know that's a crazy idea, that good pitching wins games.

Quite frankly, I don't think that baseball managers have much of an effect on the game. It's not like football coaches who call the plays, or hockey and basketball coaches who constantly shift people in and out of the game. A baseball manager is relatively uninvolved in the winning and losing of a team.

That's why I feel this is unfair to Francona. He can't make John Lackey a better pitcher. He can't make JD Drew a tough, gutsy player. And he also doesn't have any power to punish these guys for not performing. What's he supposed to threaten JD Drew with? Benching him? "Either get out and play or I'm not going to let you play."

This team was not well assembled. And that's Theo Epstein's fault. John Lackey, Carl Crawford, and JD Drew commanded over $44.5 million in salary this season. What did they contribute? If I'm John Henry, and I've invested over $160 million (plus the luxury tax) into this team, I want to hold Theo accountable for how he's spent it. "What are you doing with my money?"

Sox fans want a manager that will be more of a disciplinarian. Do you think that will work in a clubhouse full of overpaid bums and underpaid superstars? Guys like Pedroia and Youkilis will fall in line, but those two are disciplined on their own, even without a manager. Sox fans are clamoring for a change in personalities. And I have a feeling that if Sox brass listen to them and hire some guy who will fine players for not shaving their sideburns, this team will suffer not prosper.

I understand the move, but if the Sox really want to turn the proverbial ship around, they can't just fire the ship's captain. They have to get rid of the guy who put the lazy crew together. In terms of results on the field, the Red Sox have let go of the best manager they've ever had.

Why Not?

Racist Or Not Racist?

"The man who threw a banana peel on the ice as Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds was starting a shootout attempt against the Red Wings last week did not mean to make a racist statement and is "mortified" at how he is being perceived, according to his lawyer. Chris Moorhouse, of London, Ontario, was only hoping to prevent a goal, lawyer Faisal Joseph explained. "He was horrified when he saw the implications a day later as to how it had come out, and he said to me, 'If I had an apple or an orange, I would have thrown that out onto the ice. I did not realize the significance,' " Joseph said. "This is a young guy who's guilty, if anything, of an act of stupidity (WEEI)."

It's almost impossible to know this person's intent, but I think we are missing the bigger issue in this whole story. Who the hell heads to an NHL with a banana? Did he wants some fruit with his beer? Did he really have the foresight to be like "Yes, I am going to take this banana and those it at that black guy on the Flyers"?. If that's the case how fucking pumped was this guy when Simmonds came up for a penalty shot? Like that doesn't happen all the time, so it must have been like racist Christmas for this guy.

Theo Epstein Should Go Too

If they are going to fire Francona, which whatever after a collapse like that I guess I have to accept, I think Theo should go too. This roster is fucked up, and it's not like the problems are just going to go away. Theo really has made some bad moves. We are just getting through the JD Drew era, which was a bunch of money. Now we are just entering the Crawford, and Lackey era, which is even more money with little results. You add that to the long list of bone head moves (Jenks, Gagne, Cameron) and I think it's time to move on.

Also, I think the White Sox should grab Francona. After having to battle wars with Guillen all the time Francona would be a great change of pace, and could be just what the clubhouse needs.

DP's Thoughts On How To Fix The Red Sox

Step 1 has been done with firing Terry Francona! Check!

Step 2: Hire Dave Martinez, TB Bench coach he can add some Joe Maddon to the Sox Dugout.

Step 3: Keep offense pretty much the same, resign David Ortiz and re-sign Jacoby if you can, if not, you have 1 more year of arbitration so fuck him. Promote Jose Inglesis and start Lavarnway/ Salty at catcher.

Step 4: Re-Sign Papelbon. Sign Heath Bell, Edwin Jackson. Explore a trade for John Danks or Gavin Floyd and when that fails fuck it sign Mark Buerhle.

Step 5: Since there is no way of removing Lackey, we go into the season with Beckett, Lester, Clay Buchholz, Edwin Jackson, Mark Buerhle, John Lackey and eventually Dice K, securing depth for the staff.

Step 6: With a new manager we are guaranteed to make the playoffs.

That way your not overspending on free agents and secure depth. Championship!

Kobe Bryant To Play In Italy

Italian club Virtus Bologna said it has reached a verbal agreement with Kobe Bryant for the Los Angeles Lakers star to play in Italy during the NBA lockout.

So we probably aren't going to have a basketball season, which sucks. It forces me to lower my standards as an American and watch a sport in which every true fan (BMack and Captain) is a giant racist in Hockey. I will admit, I enjoyed that sport last year and I didn't mind watching it, I still don't know all the rules, but it will be a good stopgap for a year.

But with Kobe agreeing to a team out of the country it probably means he sees the writing on the wall and understands their won't be a season. Shame on the NBA for not figuring this out as well, the NBA is at the top of it's game and they have such a diverse talent pool spread throughout the league.

Sucks, Oh well.

College Football Picks: Week 5

It was another unfortunate week for my picks. My record is now 10-17-1, which is pretty shabby. I'll continue making picks, because I'm sure someone out there is probably looking at them, doing the opposite, and I'll be putting their kid through college.

Syracuse -1 vs. Rutgers
I hate SU, but they were one of the few picks that worked out for me last week.

Texas Tech -6.5 @ Kansas
Why not? If TTU wins, they'll win by a lot. And they're likely to win.

Mississippi State +7 @ Georgia
One thing's certain, the Bulldogs will be winning this game, much to the disappointment of the Bulldogs.

Texas A&M -2.5 vs. Arkansas (Arlington, TX)
The Aggies made some mistakes last week, the Razorbacks were simply outclassed. A&M gets back on track, Arkansas won't.

Boston College +1.5 vs. Wake Forest
Montel Harris is back. BC will run, run, and run.

Baylor -3.5 @ Kansas State
Both teams undefeated, not after Saturday.

Michigan State +3.5 @ Ohio State
Odd that neither team is ranked.

UConn -2.5 vs. Western Michigan
WMU sucks.

Clemson +7 @ Virginia Tech
I'm tired of picking against Clemson and losing. I want to pick them and lose.

Nebraska +10 @ Wisconsin
Camp Randall Stadium is not an easy place to win on a Saturday. But I believe in Nebraska, and I believe in 10 point spreads.

Alabama -4 @ Florida
UFA is overrated again, as usual.

Francona On His Way Out? ***UPDATE***

Reports are that Terry Francona will not have his option picked up after the historic collapse.
"It has not been decided yet whether (Francona) is wanted back or will want to come back," the source said. Francona's fate could be decided in a meeting of the team's upper management of owner John Henry, CEO Larry Lucchino and chairman Tom Werner. The meeting is expected to be held on Friday.

*****UPDATE*****
It's official!

According to the New York Daily News, Red Sox owner John Henry scheduled a meeting with manager Terry Francona Friday morning to tell the skipper the team will not pick up his option for 2012 and '13. Daily News writer Bill Madden credits sources with the information and reports that the decision was Henry's and not general manager Theo Epstein

THANK GOD! Terry Francona and his bad managing of the team has been haunting us for years and finally will be let go. I can't believe it took an epic collapse for Theo, John Henry, Larry Lucchino and Tom Werner to see the light. I could have told them this years ago.

I love how BMack and the Captain have washed this losers balls for the past years and probably still will. Like always, they are wrong and their blind loyalty makes them look like assholes now.

I could care less about the 2 world series and his win percentage because I think the Captain could have coached that team to that. To coach an AL Team isn't hard, it's actually very easy, you don't need to worry about line up changes or a pitcher hitting, you just have to worry about when our pitcher should come out, and somehow Francona fucked that up.

Nah nah nah, hey hey hey Goddbye

We are going to look back and realize the collapse was the best thing that happened to us due to Francona losing his job.

The Bright Side of Life

I'm not going to try to cheer anyone up today, but we can at least temper our misery with some pleasant thoughts...

1. Bruins season starts next week, and we'll be hoisting a banner... in front of the Flyers. That'll be sweet.

2. No more JD Drew in a Red Sox uniform (I hope).

3. Beer. Beer didn't ruin your September, and unlike the Sox, it'll be around in October.

4. You're not going to overrate the Red Sox in 2012 like you did in 2011. So if they fail again, you won't be nearly as disappointed. And if they succeed, you'll be extra happy (See: 2004).

5. College football. There are three really good games between 4-0 teams on Saturday.

6. It's very likely that a team not named the Yankees will win. Verlander in a 5 game series is extra dangerous.

7. Lesbians. God gave us lesbians and beer. A winning baseball team would have just been an added bonus.

-The Commodore

Some Sad Salary Facts

One little fact that demonstrates how messed up this team is. Last night, Ryan Lavarnway was hitting 5th. JD Drew was hitting 6th, and Carl Crawford was hitting 8th. Lavarnway is a rookie, who started the year in AA Portland. The 24 year old catcher had 35 career MLB at-bats coming into last night's game. Yet he was hitting ahead of two veteran outfielders making $14 million and $14.9 million, respectively. And nobody seemed to think that it was a bad idea. That's how disappointing and overpaid Drew and Crawford are. Against a righthanded starter, these two lefties were below a righty, rookie catcher.

Another sad fact was the Sox' alleged effort to acquire Bruce Chen to pitch in Game 163. It might have been just rumors, but instead of putting a $16,000,000 pitcher on the mound (Lackey), the Sox were apparently trying to get a $2 million man from Kansas City.

Ready Set Gamble!

So Who You Rooting For Now?

So, as you may have heard the Red Sox will not be in the postseason this year, so who are you rooting for to win it all. Personally, I am going with the Rangers. Derek Holland is one of my favorite players (#2 starter), I like Kinsler, Beltre, Young, Hamilton, and I even like David Murphy. By the way, Murphy would've looked damn good in RF this year for the Sox. Who did we trade him for again? Oh yea, Gagne another homerun by Theo.

So, who you got and why?

Jose Reyes Is A Dink

So, Jose Reyes started his day with a bunt single and then was removed from the game so he could become the first New York Met to win a batting title, which is basically the gayest thing I have eve heard. This is no different then Ripken coming in for 1 inning to keep his starting streak alive. It's beyond lame, and the Mets should be ashamed. You play the game, because that's what you're paid to do.

Typical fucking Met, cared more about personal achievement then his own team. Maybe, DP is right the Red Sox should sign him next year. He'd fit right in!!!

Sorry For The Delay I Was Choking On Something

Over the past couple of epic Boston losses (Patriots to Giants, Bruins to Flyers, ect) I have always kind of written a heartfelt post about how this brings me back to the times when Boston didn't win everything all the time, or in the Bruins case when they lost to the Canadiens they had made me a fan again. This collapse this season by the Red Sox is very different. So, be prepared for nothing, but angry rants all day long. Some might not be about the Red Sox, but all I know is they pissed me off, and I was supposed to play golf today and now it's raining, which somehow I believe is also the Red Sox fault.

The worst thing about this Red Sox team is that they aren't even all that likable. Did one person thing after they loss... "Oh, those poor guys"? I sure as fuck didn't. I thought, those overpaid, fat, pieces of shit, go home and slit your wrists.

Where the hell do I even begin. Well the season ended very poetically. Crawford should've caught that ball, I don't want to hear anything different. Papelbon shouldn't be letting up doubles when up 2 strikes on a guy by throwing a pitch right down the middle, but Crawford should've caught that last ball. Then again, Crawford hitting higher then .255 with 18 SBs. How the fuck do you get only 18 SBs? Only once in his entire career (when a full time player) has he had less then 46 SBs, and now you drop to 18? Go fuck yourself.

To be honest the rest of the hitters I am not overly mad at. Youk got hurt, Pedroia had a nice year, as did Gonzalez and Ortiz. Ellsbury could easily be the MVP, though Granderson should probably get it now. The catching situation well... was what he thought it would be, and the same can basically be said about the RF spot. Plus its hard to fault an offense that was near the top in ever major category.

The pitching though, Jesus Christ. Beckett was great 90% of the year, but I am sick of saying that. It's a trend, and I don't like it. Lester really let me down. I really thought this was going to be the year when he was put himself in that top 5 SPs in all of baseball he didn't. Sure, he pitched well last night, but if he had pitched well in any of the 3 games before it the Red Sox are at worst playing today. Buchholz got hurt, so in my book he gets a bye, and I guess the same can be said for Dice-K, but as far as I am concerned I wouldn't exactly be pissed if he did the honorable thing and jumped on his sword.

Then there is Lackey. Want to make a team unlikable, just put Lackey on it. Not only is he the worst pitcher of all time. He is a terrible person. His interviews make me think, "hmmm maybe I should just be a full time Royals fan". While his face makes me think abortions really should be legal. He is the fucking worst person in baseball, and I hope only the worst possible things for him the rest of his life.

Then the bullpen. Fatass Jenks didn't workout...shocking. Didn't see that one coming a mile a way. To be honest I have never been a big Papelbon fan. I don't like that he compares himself to Rivera, because well he isn't even close. He is good, but thinks he is way better then he is, and seems like he lets up way too many hits. Bard just fucking sucked out the stretch, I still for whatever reason like him, but I sure as fuck don't trust him to be the closer going into next season like I thought I would. Fuck the rest of the bullpen with the exception of Aceves, who should get a life time pass to play for the Red Sox as long as he wants.

This team just wasn't very likable. Papelbon is kinda a douche, so is Beckett. I am so fucking sick of Wakefield. I just read a comment about him coming back next year, so that he can chase some other record. Whatever Wake, thanks for all your service, but I am sick of terrible pitching, which includes you. We already went on the rant about Lackey, but yea unlikeable to say the least. I hate Lowrie, I want to like Crawford, but that's like trying to like to prison inmate that is currently plowing you in the ass... It's just not going to happen.

We will have posts all winter about how they will mold this team back into a winner, but for now I am going all Philly on this team. Fuck them, no free booze, no autographs, and anytime anyone sees them they should stop in the street, crouch down, take a shit in their hand, stand back up, and throw it directly in their face. Then say, "That's what you did to my September".

Orioles 4, Red Sox 3

Anyone that dares blame the Yankees for the Red Sox not making the playoffs deserves a swift slap to the face. The Red Sox surrendered a playoff berth that was theirs for the taking. It all happened so quickly last night, but this was a month long stretch of crappy baseball played by overrated, overpaid players. The Red Sox do not deserve to be in the 2011 MLB Playoffs.

Lester pitched well, all things considered. 6 innings, 2 earned on 3 days rest. I'll take that. He was a bit fortunate that Scutaro made that unbelievable glove-toss to Pedroia to start a double-play. Then Aceves did well, then Bard pitched a scoreless 8th, then Papelbon...

Papelbon had a tremendous season. But this is not the first time that he's been on the mound when a Red Sox season has ended with disappointment. I'm not saying we shouldn't re-sign him (unless we can acquire a similar talent for less money), but the facts are the facts. He has blown some pretty big saves.

It's a game of inches. Scutaro was inches from scoring on Crawford's double. But you shouldn't need a few inches here and there to beat the Orioles. The Sox had 7 games against Baltimore at the back of this schedule, and they went 2-5 in those games. The Orioles' payroll is $75 million less than the Sox.

And while the Red Sox lose the burden of JD Drew, but we're still saddled with Carl Crawford and John Lackey. This is not a complete team. All the preseason hype from all the suckers and fools in this town was over fantasy baseball stats. This team needs more starting pitching. They need another reliable arm in the pen. They need a full-time catcher, outfielders who play 150+ games, they need a bench.

There are good players on this team, good players with heart. Pedroia, Ellsbury, Youkilis. There's talented guys like Gonzalez, Beckett, Lester. Buchholz will hopefully be healthy. Daisuke isn't a bad #4 or #5. Lackey needs to be quietly killed and his body left in a snowbank. But there is a foundation here. There's something to build on.

But there needs to be a significant amount of building.

One thing I am seeing from most of the team in their post-game media sessions is emotion. Frustration. Anger. Disappointment. That's been missing, at least in the public's eye, all throughout this stretch. Maybe this team can play with some fire next year. Then again, you have excuse conjurers like Lackey who think the entire universe (except for Jim Beam) is against them. I don't know how much this team's attitude will change. I think you have different kinds of personalities in that clubhouse, and when things go well on the field, there's chemistry. When they don't, things break down.

Bruins season starts in 8 days.

Sox Out, Rays in

Red Sox @ Orioles Preview (UPDATE - LINEUP)

Jon Lester vs. Alfredo Simon for the Red Sox to have a chance at making the playoffs. It shouldn't even be a question that the Red Sox win this game, but like the rest of this month nothing is certain or easy.

Lester has lost 3 starts in a row and has a 10.54 ERA in those games. Plus, he is now starting on 3 games rest. So, there is serious reason for concern. Everytime I think the Red Sox have the pitching advantage the Red Sox seem to lose. Yet, there are reasons to think the Sox will win tonight.

Lester is 14-0 with a 2.33 ERA in 17 starts against Baltimore, winning all seven of his decisions in nine visits to Camden Yards. Scary words to say he has never lost, but it's a fact.

Going against Lester is Alfredo Simon. He is 0-3 with a 6.00 ERA in six starts. If Boston doesn't score 6-8 runs against this guy it will be a let down. No excuse, this guy is a righty, he is terrible, in they are playing in a ballpark where the ball seems to be flying out of the park on command.

I am hoping to Lavarnway in the lineup tonight. I know it was just one game last night, but over the past month Tek hasn't been able to stay on the field, and Solty is banged up and in a horrible slump.

Whatever the lineup the Sox need Lester to pitch 6-7 innings. I say that because I think the Rays are going to win with Price on the mound against whatever shitbum the Yankees are going to throw out there. With the Rays winning and the Sox most likely putting Lackey out there they are going to need Aceves ready to go.

I always have a lot of faith in Lester. I thought going into the season he was a top 10 pitcher in the MLB. He hasn't been that this year. He has been good overall, but not great. Big time pitchers pitch in big time games. Ask Schilling, so whatever is off with him needs to be corrected tonight. Again, I'll put my faith behind him.

Red Sox win 9-3
Player of the Game: Ellsbury
Game starts at 7:05pm

***UPDATED***

Sox lineup tonight...

Ellsbury, CF
Pedroia, 2B
Ortiz, DH
Gonzalez, 1B
Lavarnway, C
Drew, RF
Scutaro, SS
Crawford, RF
Aviles, 3B

I like it. Little surprised Lowrie isn't in the lineup tonight, but I am happy to see Lavarnway in there.

Bruce Chen: Captain's Thoughts

If there is a 163rd game tomorrow afternoon, the Red Sox might be starting someone new. Bruce Chen's name has been thrown around as a possible starter for the Sox. At the moment, it would be John Lackey who takes the mound.

Not only does Lackey suck, he'd be pitching on 3 days rest. Chen would be on 5 days rest. Chen actually had a decent year with the Royals, going 12-8 with a 3.98 ERA.

Chen didn't face the Rays at all this year, but in 2010, he started against them once and it was a complete game, 2 hit shutout. But in '09 against them, he had a 6.2 inning, 2 earned run game in which he allowed 5 hits and 3 walks.

The current Rays aren't too familiar with him, as they only have 64 total at-bats facing him. 28 of those at-bats belong to Johnny Damon, who hits .464 off him. BJ Upton is 1/12 in his career against Chen. Other than that, though, no Ray has more than 5 at-bats against him. No Ray has more than 1 hit, either. Pitchers tend to have the advantage when hitters aren't familiar with them.

The Rays are more familiar with Lackey (235 total at-bats). They hit .294 off him. Damon is 22 for 60 (.367), Ben Zobrist is 8 for 20 (.400). Lackey was 1-2 vs. Tampa Bay this season, with a 6.46 ERA. Last year he was 2-2, with a 6.26 ERA. This isn't a good matchup for him.

Chen was hit or miss in September. On the 18th, he made a 5.1 inning, 4 earned run start against the White Sox. Then on the 23rd, he went 8 innings against the same White Sox, allowing only 1 run off 2 hits. He was 2-3 in the month, with a pair of brilliant 8 inning starts, and 3 mediocre 4+ run starts.

Lackey has hardly been better down the stretch. 0-2 record with a 9.13 ERA in the month. He had a 3 inning, 5 earned run start against the Rays on the 9th. Like Chen, he was inconsistent. Unlike Chen, he made 3 atrocious starts in September, not 3 mediocre starts. And his 2 "good" starts were just good, not excellent, which Chen's were.

It's not that Bruce Chen is a good pitcher. It's just that John Lackey sucks. I know the entire pitching staff will be available in the bullpen in case Lackey falters, but I think Chen is less likely to outright blow the game. And with Chen, there's at least a possibility of a very good start.

Neither option is very pleasant, but I feel like Chen is the lesser of two evils.

Bruce Chen To The Rescue?

DP eluded to the fact the Red Sox are looking around the MLB for someone to make one start for the Red Sox if they have to play a one game playoff against the Rays tomorrow. As of now Lackey will pitch the game, but there are rumors the Red Sox have contacted the Royals about Bruce Chen.

Chen has a decent year with a 3.98 ERA, so he is better then Lackey, who is going to do down as the worst starting pitcher to win 12 game ever. I can't believe I am writing a post about Bruce Chen. He's a guy when I see my fantasy pitcher going against him I think... "In the bag". Yet, at this point the Red Sox have to consider it.

What kills the deal (as MLBTradeRumors.com points out) is that Chen projects as a Type B free agent, which means the Royals would get a draft pick if they hold on to him and someone else picks him up. That means the Sox would have to give up more then they wanted to for 1 game. Yes, it is an important game, but does anyone feel that much better with Bruce Chen taking the hill? I don't. I say play it out with the guys you got.

Crazy Meets Crazy On South Beach?

"Sullivan reminds us that Zambrano is close friends with Guillen, adding there is a "good chance" both could end up on South Beach in 2012 (ESPN)."

I guess if there is any manager that could handle this crazy piece of shit it'd be Guillen, then again it could end up with a knife fight in the clubhouse. Anyways, the Cubs have to look into this, because Zambrano is on the books for $18 million for next season, and they have no intent on bringing him back. Even if they could just get the Marlins to eat a couple million it could be a good idea. There are a lot of reports that the Marlins could be some of the biggest spenders this offseason, because they are moving into the new stadium and want to make a splash.

Buchholz Staying With Red Sox

"WEEI.com has learned that Clay Buchholz, who was originally believed to be scheduled to pitch in an Instructional League game in Fort Myers, Fla. Wednesday if the Red Sox' regular season finale meeting with the Orioles meant anything in the wild card race, will remain with the team. With Buchholz staying in Baltimore, the team is leaving open the possibility of activating the pitcher for Wednesday's game.

Buchholz -- who hasn't pitched in a big league game since June 16 thanks to a stress fracture in his lower back -- had thrown 18 pitches in an Instructional League game Monday (allowing a double) before rejoining the Red Sox later that day (WEEI)."

Interesting. I am not sure what the Sox think they are going to get from this guy after pitching only 18 pitches? Maybe there thinking of combining all their shitty pitchers together on Thursday and try to some how get an inning of good pitching from all of them.

As DP wrote before Lackey is starting Thursday if we get that far. That makes it even more important tonight that no only does Lester win, but go deep into the game. They need Aceves to get the night off. He has pitched a bunch of innings over the past couple days, and I know he has a rubber arm, but everyone get tired at some point. If Lester can go 7 innings (I know that is asking a lot with the way he has been playing), and then the Sox can go Bard, Papelbon (in a close game) that would be huge for the Red Sox, because I can guarantee they are going to need Aceves in that Lackey (if they make it that far).

Will Mike Vick's Comments Work For Him

Mike Vick pulled a little Phil Jackson move when he talked about the refs not giving him calls that they would for other QBs. (Fact is he had more penalties called for him than Brady, Rodgers, Brees and Rivers combined) To me this is a simple case, Vick you act like a runningback, so they will call the game as if you were a RB when you are out of the pocket. You play recklessly so you can't expect the Refs to give you a benefit for that.

I like Vick and I like his style of play, but he plays to get hurt. If you constantly are leaving yourself out their getting hits and shit, you will get hurt, and the refs have nothing to do with it. I would hate to be an official in the SF/Philly game this weekend, because they will be under the microscope the whole game. The question is, will Vicks comments effect how they call the game?

O.K. When We Make The 1 Game Pay-off Verse The Rays We Are Starting Lackey.......... Fuck

Isn't there a cancer etiquette that if you are married to someone with cancer you can't get divorced and leave them with nothing until the cancer is over. Plus she's hot, cancer or not this is pretty much the best he's going to get. John Lackey is the biggest douche on earth and he will get the call in the biggest game for the Sox this year.

The Rays are said to turn to Matt Moore, the rookie who had an impressive 11 k game against the Yankees a week ago. We are fucking doomed. The situation is so bad that the Sox are trying to trade for a pitcher to make a 1 start outing for them, and this player won't even make the playoff roster.

Whatever, we are still making the playoffs some way to the chagrin of Terry Francona.... Batting Jed Lowrie 4th was an awesome move.....not.

Sorry, It's A Slow Day

Here is judge Nancy Grace's nipple from Dancing With The Stars...... it's ok to throw up, she's hideous.

I don't get Dancing With The Stars because it's not A List type of stars and I would find it very boring. It also might be because I hate Erin Andrews and I boycott anything that she is on because she set up the hole peep hole scandal and plays the victim. No one walks around oiled up like that with a freshly shaved vag.

Red Sox 8, Orioles 7

That was tense. The Sox' bats kept pulling away, but the Orioles kept coming. Nothing was easy. Just ask Papelbon after he needed 28 pitches for one inning (he needed 29 on Sunday).

The bats needed to come alive, as Bedard just wasn't good enough. Again. Thankfully, the Sox have Alfredo Aceves, who is the biggest unsung hero of the team. 3.2 innings from him (getting 1 more out than Bedard could), as he deservedly got win #10. He's pitched 113 innings this year in 54 appearances (only 4 of those were starts). Without him, the Sox are eliminated from contention over a week ago.

Daniel Bard sucks. I couldn't believe Francona didn't have Papelbon ready to come in to get the last out of the 8th. There's no way in hell that this guy is ready to be a closer.

Before last night, some people probably didn't know who Ryan Lavarnway was. After last night, I don't think anyone doesn't know who he is. He started off with a pickoff, then hits a 3 run homer, then a solo shot as an encore. He's 24, he hit .467 his junior year at Yale. He was hitting .295 in Pawtucket this year. Maybe he's a spark that this team desperately needs.

Ellsbury furthered his MVP bid with a 2 run homer in the 2nd. But another guy who has been contributing down the stretch is Scutaro. His 2 out double extended the inning that Ellsbury hit his homer in. Later, Scutaro hit a 2 run shot of his own. He's hitting .368 in September.

Now we wait for Game #162. The Rays beat the Yankees, thanks in part to a bases loaded triple play. So we wait. Jon Lester will take the mound for the Sox. He's 14-0 in his career against Baltimore. Though it's only his second career start on 3 days rest. That other start didn't go well (4 runs in 5 innings back in April of '08), but he only threw 55 pitches on Saturday so maybe he'll be better rested.

The O's will counter with Alfredo Simon who is 4-9 with a 4.85 ERA. He's a righty journeyman and not very good. There's no reason for the Sox to not score runs off him. He allowed 3 in 4.2 innings against the Sox earlier this year.

And if necessary, the AL Wild Card playoff game would be Thursday at 4:07, and would be in St. Petersburg.

Down to the Wire Sports Chowdah- Lavranway or the Highway in Baltimore; Buffalo Shuffles Off to 3-0 Start After Upsetting Pats

RED SOX: After dropping two out of three at Yankee stadium (their sole win in that series being decided by a Jacoby Ellsbury 3-run homer in the 14th inning late Sunday night) the Red Sox headed headed down to Baltimore for the final series of the regular season. Only the way the Red Sox had been playing in September, it could very well end up being their season finale altogether. Monday night was pretty gruesome, with the Tampa Bay Rays closing the gap, the O's roughing up Beckett and Saltalamacchia leaving the game after taking a foul ball off the throat.

Tuesday night saw ex-O Eric Bedard get the start against his former team, only lasting 3 and ⅓ innings against a persistent Baltimore offense. However, the Red Sox were even rougher on O's starter Zach Britton. In the top of the 3rd, Jacoby Ellsbury let his bat do the arguing for him in the AL MVP discussion, belting a 2-run homer to take a 2-1 lead. However, in the top of the 5th, with Big Pappi and Adrian Gonzalez on base, Red Sox rookie catcher Ryan Lavarnway would increase the lead with a 3-run shot to make it 5-1 Boston- his first big league home run. As sizeable a lead as theat turned out to be, the Red Sox would need even more as Baltimore would counter with a 2 run homer off the bat of catcher Matt Wieters to make it a 2-run game.

In the top of the 6th, Carl Crawford's 1-out triple was followed by a homer off the bat of Marco Scutaro to increase the lead to 7-3 in favor of Boston. Baltimore would respond with a solo homer off the bat of Adam Jones in the bottom of the 6th to make it 7-4.

Leading off the 8th, Lavarnway would double his career homerun total with a solo shot to make it 8-4. After 3 and ⅔ innings, Alfredo Aceves was replaced by Daniel Bard on the mound to face Baltimore. The O's managed to get two runs with two away in the bottom of the 8th to once again make it a two-run game with Boston now leading 8-6.

Things would get even more tense in the bottom of the 9th when Papelbon came on to close out the game and gave up a single to JJ Hardy. Hardy would make his way to 2nd on a Markakis groundout and then to 3rd on a Vlad Guerrero single, reaching home on a Matt Weiters bunt that Lavarnway threw to 1st for the out. Papelbon would then get JJ Hardy to ground out to end the ballgame by the final of 8-7.

It was a win they would need, too, as the Tampa Bay Rays managed to hold off a late rally by the Yankees to preserve the tie for the AL Wild Card (the Angels were eliminated from contention on Monday night).

Wednesday's game- the final of the regular season- will have Jon Lester (15-9; 3.49 ERA) going up against Alfredo Simon (4-9; 4.85 ERA). The Red Sox need a win to at least force a 1-game playoff with the Rays on Thursday- Tampa is going up against a Yankees team that's already clinched the AL East and aside from determining who makes the playoff roster doesn't have alot to play for.

OTHER RED SOX NEWS: According to gossip site TMZ.com, Red Sox starter John Lackey and his wife are filing for divorce. Court papers were reportedly filed in Texas last month citing 'conflict of personalities'.

ELSEWHERE IN MLB: Over in the National League, the Wild Card there hasn't been determined either. The St Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves are deadlocked for the NL Wild Card with one game remaining for each team (Atlanta has the Phillies while St Louis has the Astros). If the deadlock in the standings remains unbroken by tomorrow night, then there will be a 1-game playoff in St. Louis on Thursday night.

Reportedly, if a one game playoff is required for the AL or NL Wild card, the game will be televised on TBS. First pitch would be 4:07 PM ET in Tampa for the Red Sox and Rays and 8:07 PM ET in St. Louis for Braves/Cardinals.

WHITE SOX: White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen was released from his duties by the White Sox this week. There had been speculation that Guillen wasnt long for the organization as well as rumors that he was interested in becoming the manager of the Florida Marlins. This seemed to be confirmed by Guillen himself via twitter as he informed followers about his arrival in Miami.

NFL: For the first time since 2003, the Buffalo Bills have managed to defeat the New England Patriots. Although the Patriots managed to get out to a 21-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter, the Bills managed to whittle that down to 21-10 by halftime. Buffalo would come back to tie the game at 24-24 early in the 4th before taking the lead when CB Drayton Florence ran back a Brady INT for a quick 6 on New Engalnd's following possession.

The Patriots would then take nearly 7 minutes to march down the field, tying the game up on a 6 yard pass from Brady to Welker on 4th and goal with 3:25 left in the 4th. However, that would be enough time for Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to engineer an 80-yard drive that sputtered at the one, but all that was needed was a chip shot FG from Bills kicker Rian Lindell as time expired to give Buffalo the 34-31 win.

So heading into week 4, Buffalo stands alone atop the AFC East (Sunday's meeting was the Bills 1st matchup of the season against an division opponent). As a measure of consolation, the Jets would go on to lose against the Oakland Raiders that afternoon as well.

Speaking of Oakland, the Patriots will travel to the East Bay to take on the Raiders this Sunday. The game will be televised on CBS and kicks off at 4:15 PM ET, 1:15 PM PT.

NBA: With players not reporting to training camp at the usual time due to the lockout, the NBA has postponed training camp indefinitely and cancelled 43 preseason games. Meetings between the league and player's association ended without a collective bargaining agreement last week, putting the preseason games and possibly the start of the regular season in doubt.

Red Sox @ Orioles Preview

It's all tied up with 2 games left in the season. I am not going to go down the road of why we have got to this point, because we could have the whole offseason to talk about that soon enough. What matters is it's Bedard vs. Britton tonight.

Bedard is making his first start at Camden Yards since his last game for Baltimore in 2007. He has enjoyed nice success in the stadium with a 3.56 ERA there, which is lowest all-time among pitchers who have made at least 40 starts at Camden. That being said he only lasted 2 2/3 innings against this team last time he pitched against them, which is a bad sign since the Sox can't seem to get anyone to pitch more then a couple innings.

Zach Britton has won his last two starts. He was terrible in his first start against the Sox this season getting lit up for 8 runs in just 2/3 of an inning, but bounced back last time letting up just 1 run in 6 innings of work.

I am scared shitless, and I really just don't know anymore. Britton is a sinkerball lefty that could shutdown the Sox easily. Then again the Red Sox have guys like Ellsbury, Ortiz, Pedroia, and Gonzalez that should be good enough to get the Sox into the postseason. I am going to say they are going to win, but that really is just me being a fan at this point.

Red Sox win 5-4
Player of the Game: Ellsbury
Game starts at 7:05pm

NFL Power Rankings

1. Packers (1) - Wasn't pretty, but Super Bowl Champs are 3-0, with 2 out of their 3 wins coming against teams that were thought to be playoff teams.

2. Saints (4) - Little worried about this defense, but Brees looks to be in MVP mode.

3. Lions (5) - Great comeback win. This team could be for real.

4. Ravens (10) - I think week 2 was an aberration.

5. Patriots (2) - Tough day for Brady, somethings just didn't go his way, but you have to start being worried about this defense.

6. Jets (3) - Tough loss to an underrated Raiders team. Shonn Greene is a bust.

7. Steelers (11) - Beating the Colts by 3? They are better then that. Need more from Mendenhall then 18 carries for 37 yards.

8. Chargers (6) - Beat KC by 3? They are better then that.

9. Bills (14) - Maybe I have to start taking guys like Fred Jackson and Steve Johnson seriously.

10. Cowboys (13) - If (when?) Vick goes down this team could win the NFC East.

11. Bucs (15) - Held on to beat the Falcons in a HUGE game for them.

12. Texans (7) - Almost beat the Saints, but I am sick of saying almost with this team.

13. Raiders (18) - Proved they are for real. Beat the Patriots and they will be in my top 10. McFadden looks like an MVP.

14. Giants (17) - Hate on Coughlin all you want, but this team has been crushed by injuries and is 2-1.

15. Falcons (8) - Where the hell did Turner go in that game?

16. Eagles (9) - Vick's stats 59% 605 yards 4 TDs 2 INTs 153 yards rushing 0 TDs. That's not worth $100 million. Oh, and where is the defense?

17. Bears (12) Tough loss to the Packers, but that offense looks terrible. They are going to get Cutler killed.

18. Redskins (16) - A late Grossman fumble to end a game. Ahh, there's the Grossman I know.

19. 49ers (21) - Squeaked out a win against the Benagls. Nothing to be excited about.

20. Titans (20) - Anyone seen Chris Johnson. Someone better find him with Britt gone for the year.

21. Panthers (24) Funny Newton has his worst game, but gets his first win.

22. Browns (27) - Nice win over Dolphins, but McCoy needs to start completing more passes.

23. Cardinals (19) - You lost to the Seahawks. You've really let me down.

24. Rams (22) - By the time Jackson is 100% their season could be over.

25. Broncos (23) - Packers/Chargers up next. Those Tebow chants aren't going to go away when they are 1-4.

26. Dolphins - (26) - Reggie Bush sucks.

27. Jags (25) - By the time Gabbert is a good QB Jones-Drew will be run into the ground.

28. Bengals (28) - You scored 8 points. 8.

29. Seahawks (31) - Fuck you, you're still terrible. Good crowd though.

30. Vikings (29) - If games were only the first half this team would be sick.

31. Colts (30) - Stop trying so hard and wait for Andrew Luck.

32. Chiefs (32) - Same thing as the Colts.

Ugh, Do I Have To Defend Rex Ryan?

I pains me to write this because I do fucking hate Rex Ryan, but after reading Joe Namath's stupid rant I couldn't help myself...

Appearing on ESPN Radio Monday, Namath questioned Ryan's method of preparing his players. "It's rather alarming," Namath said. "It starts at the top. Coach Rex Ryan, he's been doing a great job, getting us to two conference championship games, but there's one thing about the athlete: You keep telling him how good he is, he's going to start believing it to the point that he may not be preparing quite the way he should. He may be losing some respect for the other team."

Really? All it took was one loss to an underrated Raiders team for this to start? This coach has got you to 2 AFC Championship games in 2 years and you're saying he isn't preparing his team? Wait, this is the same guy that knocked out my beloved 14-2 Patriots last season right? I am sure he didn't coach them up at all before that game.

I hate Rex Ryan, I do. I think he is a self promoting douchebag, that melts cheese on women's feet and eats it off. I hate his quotes, his face, basically everything about him, but the bottom line is that he is a very good coach and this stupid overrated drunk should keep his fucking mouth shut.

It's All About Pitching

Everyone's been blaming Theo and Tito for the Red Sox' September swoon. They're even blaming pitching coach Curt Young, which is slightly more intelligent since it is pitching that wins and pitching that loses. I know that's hardly an original thought, but with the blame game being played, I feel like all the fault for this stretch of wretched baseball belongs to this team's starting pitchers.

The Red Sox are 29th in Quality Starts (starts of 6+ innings, allowing 3 earned runs or less). 70 Quality Starts in 160 games. Only Baltimore has fewer with 60. The Yankees have 84. The Phillies have 107. And that's too bad, because when the Sox do get a Quality Start, they're nearly unstoppable. They're 54-16 in those 70 games (.771). Without a Quality Start, the Sox are 35-55 (.389).

Beckett and Lester have the lion's share of Quality Starts for the Sox. 38 combined. Yet in September, they've only each made one Quality Start. These are the foundations of the Red Sox rotation, and they are having two of the biggest slumps on the team.

One reason the Sox don't have as many Quality Starts as they could is the loss of Buchholz. Buchholz struggled in April, but 6 of his last 9 starts were Quality Starts. The Red Sox were 8-1 in those 9 starts. Losing him has cost the rotation some serious stability.

Losing Daisuke didn't hurt much, to be frank. He only had 2 Quality Starts in 7 chances.

I wasn't that impressed with this rotation at the beginning of the year. It seemed to rely on Beckett being consistent (something his career record has proven that he isn't), Daisuke being both good and healthy (something which is almost as rare as Beckett being consistent), a young Buchholz duplicating an extraordinary season, and John Lackey being the exact opposite of what he's been lately.

Lackey actually got worse, Beckett was great for a time, but now he's slumping (his inconsistency reappearing). Buchholz was doing well then got hurt, Daisuke wasn't doing well then got hurt. And Lester is a good 2 or 3 pitcher and not an Ace.

We all thought we had a better rotation than the Yankees. But we don't. We never did. We mocked them for just having CC Sabathia, but there's no pitcher on the Sox even close to Sabathia. And the Yankees don't have anyone as bad as Lackey.

It's all about pitching. Even with a fantastic offense, if you don't get a good start, you're going to struggle to win. If Beckett or Lester each made just one more Quality Start in September, the Sox could have already clinched. Now, their postseason lives are on the line. And if they don't get Quality Starts in the next two (maybe three) games, then they'll almost surely die.

So Does This Mean I Have To Respect Romo?

So after watching last nights game, do I have to respect Tomo Romo? He is playing with broken ribs and a recent punctured lung and is winning games. He has basically dick slapped all of his critics this year by leading the team in the 4th quarter the game before and playing through a gruesome injury yesterday. I mean he single handedly won that game last night.

I guess the response will be to wait until the playoffs, but still I'm starting to not hate Tony Romo anymore.

The New Jersey Nets Shall Be Called.... The Brooklyn Nets

Jay-Z announced yesterday that the awful New Jersey basketball team shall keep their name. He also said that he will perform a series of concerts, to help publicity. I don't know how the Nets will do in Brooklyn, but I know that Jay Z knows how to make money better than anyone else in the world and I would be stoked to have him on my side. Jay Z is a millionaire and being backed up by a Russian bazillionaire, so I can't wait to see their marketing schemes.

The Nets are headed in the right direction with Deron Williams Brook Lopez, drafting Marshon Brooks and having Kris Humphries. But like many teams the lock out will dictate the future.

Are You Fuck Bags Still Going To Defend Francona After Last Night!

Seriously Captain and Bob are you still going to live in la la land and not realize all of this is Terry Francona's fault. Yesterday was a winnable game, we should have won it, our fucking beloved Tito cost us a a huge game that could ultimately cost us the season. You could tell that Beckett didn't have it in the 5th when he was walking and letting up hits to everyone. He was lucky to only get out of the inning letting up 1 run and leaving the bases loaded. It was tied at 2 and Aceves could have came in. But no, fucking Tito decides to throw Beckett out there in the 6th and he promptly lets up 4 runs on another homerun (although inside). Buck Showalter understood the writing was on the wall with Tommy Hunter and pulled him after the 5th for relievers, you know why? Because he manages to win, not to protect and not hurt his players feelings.

Yesterday a candidate got removed that would be a hell of a manager in Boston. Ozzie Guillen, all reports say he is headed to Miami, but maybe just maybe our we can swipe him up before the Marlins get him. Ozzie is a firey guy, who has managed a World Series championship team with far less talent than Boston has. Ozzie puts pressure on his players and tells it like it is, kind of the opposite of Francona, and that is exactly what we need.

Francona's season is inexcusable and he must go, how does not everyone say this?

Orioles 6, Red Sox 3

The Sox had Josh Beckett on the mound. They needed a great start from him. They did not get one. And once again, a poor pitching performance resulted in a loss. Although it's not like the offense did their job either. They got on base (11 hits, 4 walks), but couldn't get the hits when it mattered most.

I want this team to make the playoffs, simply to avoid the shame of such an historic collapse. But this team simply does not deserve it. People have criticized the GM, the manager, this team's "heart" or lack thereof. They've blamed injuries, and there's some validity to that. I, however, do not think this team has good pitching.

And while the offense scores runs in big bunches, it's not structured to be consistent. The lineup is too vulnerable if one or two key players slump at the same time.

The whole season is on the line. The Sox arrived in Baltimore with some momentum, with an alleged Ace on the mound, and with their destiny completely in hand. If they'd swept the O's, they'd win the Wild Card. Now the Sox have to win 2 games and they still might need a one game playoff against the Rays in order to make the postseason.

Erik Bedard faces Zach Britton tonight.

Red Sox @ Orioles Preview

3 games left this season and they are all in Baltimore. The Sox have a 1 game lead over Tampa Bay. Boston has Beckett on the hill tonight, so one would think this shouldn't be a problem. Then again, who knows what to think anymore.

Red Sox have the second-worst record (6-18) and second-worst ERA (5.82) this month, but none of that will matter if they can take care of business over the next couple of days. Beckett, who is 1-1 with a 6.38 ERA against the Orioles this season, but is 5-2 with a 3.18 mark over 11 career outings at Camden Yards.

He will be facing Tommy Hunter who had a 6.46 ERA during his previous four home starts before throwing seven scoreless innings in an 8-3 win over the Angels. He isn't anything great, so the Sox should be able to hit him. Yet, how many times have I said that and then the Sox turn around and put a 2 spot on the board.

If the Sox don't sweep this series then they don't deserve to be anywhere near the playoffs.

Kenny Britt Out For Season

Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt will undergo season-ending surgery on his right knee to repair multiple torn ligaments. Tough blow for the Titans, as Britt was leading the AFC in receiving with 14 catches for 271 yards and three touchdowns. The Titans don't have a lot of receiving depth, so they are really going to need Chris Johnson to get going. He has only 98 rushing yards through 3 games, and they are going to need him to start having those 150 yard games if they are going to do anything the rest of this year.

No Matter What They Say Manning Is Done For Year

"During a business breakfast with Super Bowl donors Monday, Colts owner Jim Irsay announced that Peyton Manning could miss the entire season while he recovers from offseason neck surgery, according to a reports out of Indianapolis.

After the reports surfaced, Irsay sent out a tweet clarifying his comments and indicating there remains a possibility of a late-season return by the veteran quarterback: I didn't say Peyton out 4season FOR SURE,keeping him on ActiveRoster n taking it month by month/Outside chance of return n December possible," Irsay wrote (WEEI)."

The Colts are 0-3 and they will be lucky to win more then 3 games all year. So, there is really no point for Manning coming back this year. I wrote about this before, but how interesting will it be if the Colts have the #1 pick? Would think pick Luck? I mean Manning can't have too long left in the NFL, so I would think they would have to. It would be a very interesting situation. Imagine if they go from Manning to Luck and have back-to-back franchise QBs without any kind of break? As you can tell I am sold that Luck is going to be a top 5 QB within his first 3 seasons in the NFL.

Anyways, Manning is done for this year.
