Orioles 6, Red Sox 3

The Sox had Josh Beckett on the mound. They needed a great start from him. They did not get one. And once again, a poor pitching performance resulted in a loss. Although it's not like the offense did their job either. They got on base (11 hits, 4 walks), but couldn't get the hits when it mattered most.

I want this team to make the playoffs, simply to avoid the shame of such an historic collapse. But this team simply does not deserve it. People have criticized the GM, the manager, this team's "heart" or lack thereof. They've blamed injuries, and there's some validity to that. I, however, do not think this team has good pitching.

And while the offense scores runs in big bunches, it's not structured to be consistent. The lineup is too vulnerable if one or two key players slump at the same time.

The whole season is on the line. The Sox arrived in Baltimore with some momentum, with an alleged Ace on the mound, and with their destiny completely in hand. If they'd swept the O's, they'd win the Wild Card. Now the Sox have to win 2 games and they still might need a one game playoff against the Rays in order to make the postseason.

Red Sox @ Orioles Preview

3 games left this season and they are all in Baltimore. The Sox have a 1 game lead over Tampa Bay. Boston has Beckett on the hill tonight, so one would think this shouldn't be a problem. Then again, who knows what to think anymore.

Red Sox have the second-worst record (6-18) and second-worst ERA (5.82) this month, but none of that will matter if they can take care of business over the next couple of days. Beckett, who is 1-1 with a 6.38 ERA against the Orioles this season, but is 5-2 with a 3.18 mark over 11 career outings at Camden Yards.

He will be facing Tommy Hunter who had a 6.46 ERA during his previous four home starts before throwing seven scoreless innings in an 8-3 win over the Angels. He isn't anything great, so the Sox should be able to hit him. Yet, how many times have I said that and then the Sox turn around and put a 2 spot on the board.

If the Sox don't sweep this series then they don't deserve to be anywhere near the playoffs.

Kenny Britt Out For Season

Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt will undergo season-ending surgery on his right knee to repair multiple torn ligaments. Tough blow for the Titans, as Britt was leading the AFC in receiving with 14 catches for 271 yards and three touchdowns. The Titans don't have a lot of receiving depth, so they are really going to need Chris Johnson to get going. He has only 98 rushing yards through 3 games, and they are going to need him to start having those 150 yard games if they are going to do anything the rest of this year.

No Matter What They Say Manning Is Done For Year

"During a business breakfast with Super Bowl donors Monday, Colts owner Jim Irsay announced that Peyton Manning could miss the entire season while he recovers from offseason neck surgery, according to a reports out of Indianapolis.

After the reports surfaced, Irsay sent out a tweet clarifying his comments and indicating there remains a possibility of a late-season return by the veteran quarterback: I didn't say Peyton out 4season FOR SURE,keeping him on ActiveRoster n taking it month by month/Outside chance of return n December possible," Irsay wrote (WEEI)."

The Colts are 0-3 and they will be lucky to win more then 3 games all year. So, there is really no point for Manning coming back this year. I wrote about this before, but how interesting will it be if the Colts have the #1 pick? Would think pick Luck? I mean Manning can't have too long left in the NFL, so I would think they would have to. It would be a very interesting situation. Imagine if they go from Manning to Luck and have back-to-back franchise QBs without any kind of break? As you can tell I am sold that Luck is going to be a top 5 QB within his first 3 seasons in the NFL.

Anyways, Manning is done for this year.
